The Right Time to Move

When is it Time to Move?
While the decision of WHEN to give up the big house remains a personal and emotional one, some factors need to be considered. All residences - big or small - require maintenance. If you have reason to believe you may become less than diligent about keeping up with repairs, even as MORE chores show up (the house isn't getting any younger either!), then you may want to consider selling. Homes that show signs of deferred maintenance will bring less value on the marketplace.

When is the right time to make a move?
This is not a straight forward answer. There are some rules of thumb that may help in arriving at an answer. If you are living in a home that is too large for you to maintain, then it makes sense to consider a move to a senior community. There are other reasons that may encourage you to make the move. These include being able to maintain an independent lifestyle without putting yourself at risk. Ask yourself these questions. Are you able to go out and buy groceries and other necessities? Are you able and motivated to cook and eat meals? Do you have enough social contact with friends, family and neighbors? Do you get enough exercise and are you able to perform all the little chores that one needs to do to keep functioning? If the answer is no to any of these questions, then a senior community may be your answer.

When selecting the right community for your loved one, it is very important that the whole family is involved in the decision making process. A lot of people will not readily admit to infirmities that limit them from functioning at 100% capacity and as a result they put themselves at risk. Everyone wants to believe that they can maintain their independence indefinitely and sometimes a move to a senior living community will enable you to continue being independent with the minimum of assistance. Family members can be helpful in reaching the right decision and in assisting with making the transition smooth and pleasant.

Come talk to one of our senior living counselor about the cost benefits of living at Waltonwood vs. your home. Let us help you determine how much extra it may cost you to remain in your present "comfort zone" for a few more years vs. living at Waltonwood. Making the decision to move is the first, but not necessarily the hardest step. It's common for individuals to be hesitant and have anxiety of the unknown. After making the move, many say it was the best decision they had ever made.

Resident Testimonial
“. . . everything is taken care of for you. Your laundry is done, your apartment is cleaned, the cooking is done, even your bed is made for you daily. I have plenty of towels and never lack for anything.”

Family Testimonial
“I really wanted to take a minute to make you aware of how my family feels about your operation at Waltonwood. My father’s experience there was really terrific…and it was so…because of your fine staff. They really cared and it was noticeable every time my siblings or I were there. It gets very difficult, but living with dignity in the last years of life is of such great value. My father did that and the environment, both the physical plant and the love of the staff, was a significant factor.“

“I know it is a business.. and should / has to be. Of course, the operating success of a business like assisted living is dependent on reputation, word of mouth, etc. Rest assured that all of my family will recommend you facility and people to all we come across.“

“Finally, I must say…I’m not surprised. Quality begets quality. Singh has always been first class. Your Waltonwood operation carries on that tradition.“
